UX things to do that will get you on Santa’s nice list

User Experience & Usability

Christmas can be one of the busiest times for many websites and apps, so ensuring your product consists of great UX design that can enhance the experience and minimise stress for your customers is perfect during an already stressful time of year.

At System Concepts, we’ve outlined some fundamental UX principles for you to consider, ensuring your products deliver a great experience to the user and get you onto Santa’s nice list!

Where it all starts

To kick things off let’s think about the very first thing people will interact with; the home page. The home page or landing page is one of the most important aspects when considering the user experience. This is where they will always return to and where they will learn how to navigate and interact with your product. Not only should this page stand above your competitors and be attractive in how it looks, but it should also set a standard or template for the entirety of your product. A clear, concise and attractive home page will surely keep you away from that naughty list.

Accessibility

Now Santa wouldn’t be best pleased if you started leaving people out, which is why here at System Concepts we are always looking to improve our clients’ product in terms of its accessibility. As you may have heard before, good design should work for everyone, and we couldn’t agree more! Making sure the fonts, font size, colour contrasts, screen reader capabilities, and other such aspects, are usable for a variety of user needs is essential!

Always testing

There’s only one way to truly understand your product’s usability and that’s through some good old user research! Whether this is for accessibility purposes, like we mentioned previously, or just to test overall usability, it’s always good to know what users think of your product. This is often our favourite part about the work we do and it’s all about understanding the needs of your users. By testing your product with users, you can begin to identify where improvements are needed and how you can make the best user experience with your product. So surely if you aim to keep your user happy, you’ll be getting onto that nice list!

Visual simplicity

Nothing can be more annoying (and likely get you on the naughty list) than a cluttered, busy and un-sectioned page! Keeping your product clearly categorised, simple and well-spaced can make all the difference when it comes to a user’s experience. Specifically try to focus on having a good visual hierarchy and easy to read colour schemes that assist with clear navigation and understanding of the options being presented, to enhance your product’s usability.

Now that you have these key UX things to do, your products should be on their way to becoming the best version of themselves, and therefore getting you onto Santa’s nice list (no lump of coal for you, yay!)
