Top 5 key aspects of online shopping UX Researchers expect to see for Christmas 2022.
As a team of UX Researchers here at System Concepts, it would be fair to say that we have learned a thing or two over the years about the types of online experiences users want and need. So, this year as we embark on our Christmas shopping, we are listing the top 5 aspects/features of online shopping we hope to experience.
1. Clear navigation
There’s nothing more frustrating than not being able to find what you’re looking for, especially when it’s not where you would expect it to be! Through user testing over the years, we have found this to be one of the biggest factors for people giving up on a website and looking elsewhere. By incorporating things such as clearly labelled pages, suitable menu options, and clear separations between content on the website; finding what you’re after this Christmas might not be so hard after all!
2. The best bargains
This year more than ever, finding a good bargain (if that’s even possible with all the price increases) is so important! None of us want to pay for an item and then find out later that in fact we could have got it at a better price all along. Features such as offers in the website header, or suggested discount codes at checkout are always fantastic for this and help us stretch our budget out just that little bit further. Also, another way we hope to see bargains displayed is by showing some of the best deals available on the website home page or perhaps on a separate page dedicated to deals so that we can instantly figure out the best bargains up for grabs this season.
3. Good visual hierarchy
For us here at System Concepts, nothing makes us happier than coming across a clear and simple design for a website. Like a website’s navigation, the design and layout of a website can be detrimental to whether a user will truly engage with it. Effective use of colour, font and space can help to identify the key points of interaction and content, allowing us to find what we want quickly and easily.
4. Smart suggestions
Finding the right gift for your Great Uncle Pete or your partner’s Nan can be a hard job! That’s why website suggestion tools or gift guides can be super helpful. If you’ve been on the hunt for a certain gift for some time, most websites will have a suggestion feature showing suggested items based on what you’ve been looking for. Some websites may simply show similar items, or even categorise items based on a persona. Either way, we feel that any help provided during this busy time of year is always much appreciated.
5. Clear product information & summaries
Finally, when it comes to picking and paying for items, we want to see clearly outlined the product and order details. When deciding on that all important gift, sometimes the key can be in the details. By providing this product information clearly you can really impact whether a user continues with a purchase. Then once purchasing, a nice and simple order summary is essential. With so much going on this time of year, we want to know exactly what we are paying for and feel assured in how we have spent our money. After all, nothing beats transparency with customers!
