Practical Industrial Ergonomics III

Getting the business benefits

Practical Industrial Ergonomics - III is a 3-5 day industrial training course for engineers, which teaches them how to apply a proven ergonomics problem solving methodology. The methodology can be applied to new jobs that are being designed or to existing jobs that require re-design. This is a 'hands-on' course and participants apply the methodology to actual jobs in their own industrial facilities. This means that the training time can also be considered productive and results can be achieved very quickly. Participants will be devising practical solutions to real problems under the guidance of the trainer.

Designing jobs using this methodology will help improve the productivity of the workforce and the quality of the product, reduce work related injuries, staff sickness and absenteeism and lower healthcare costs, insurance premiums and compensation claims.

An option with this course is to have the trainer return at a later date to validate the solutions that have been implemented by the participants.

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for engineers and others involved in conducting detailed ergonomics assessments.

What skills and information will they learn?

This course follows on from (or incorporates) our one-day Practical Industrial Ergonomics - 1 course. As well as gaining the skills and information detailed for the one-day course, participants will also be able to:

  • Use rigorous data collection techniques
  • Apply the ergonomics problem solving methodology
  • Conduct detailed ergonomics assessments of a range of industrial jobs
  • Develop solutions that are based on sound ergonomics principles
  • Compare the feasibility of alternative solutions
  • Select and apply appropriate advanced ergonomics analysis tools e.g. NIOSH lifting analysis 1991; Biomechanical lifting model; elemental task analysis; dynamic task analysis; medical/safety records review; postural analysis
  • Present a justified case for ergonomics improvements

Course content

A comprehensive reference manual and checklists are provided.

This course features step-by-step demonstrations of the ergonomics problem solving methodology by the trainer. At each stage in the methodology the participants put the new skills into practice on real jobs from their own plant. Key elements of the course are:
