Getting the business benefits

Personal Ergonomics is a two hour seminar for hourly workers in industrial sectors such as manufacturing. It is offered as a companion course to the Practical Industrial Ergonomics courses. It provides workers with the skills they need to apply ergonomics principles to prevent injuries, involving them in the process, and encouraging them to take responsibility for their own comfort and safety. This approach will help reduce sickness and absenteeism, lower healthcare costs, insurance premiums and compensation claims and improve the productivity of the workforce.

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for all hourly paid workers, particularly in assembly, distribution, manufacturing, packing, materials handling and laboratories.

What skills and information will they learn?

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify strategies to prevent visual and musculoskeletal fatigue
  • Use tools, equipment and work areas appropriately
  • Make suggestions on how to improve work procedures and work areas
  • Perform exercises to reduce fatigue and discomfort
  • Identify and report symptoms

Course content

A handbook or reference card showing key information from the seminar is provided.

The course uses actual case studies to allow workers to gain skills that are immediately applicable to their work situations. Participants learn:

Ergonomics principles

  • Proper postures and movements
  • Hand/wrist
  • Shoulder/arm
  • Back

Proper techniques for

  • Lifting and materials handling
  • Use of hand tools
  • Use of work area

Exercises to reduce muscular fatigue

Procedures for reporting symptoms

Course information and how to book

This two hour seminar is offered in-house, in conjunction with one of the Practical Industrial Ergonomics courses only. The course costs £600 + VAT for up to 20 participants, giving a cost per head of £30 + VAT for a full course.
