The theme of World Usability Day (WUD) this year is Designing for a Sustainable World and draws on the revised human-centred design standard ISO 9241-210 which explains how designing for usability also supports sustainability.
Increasingly users are rejecting excessive packaging often designed solely for the convenience of the freight distribution system and are asking questions about product disposal and recycling. Making products which last longer and are more effective, efficient and satisfying has clear economic, social and environmental benefits.
To celebrate WUD 2009 System Concepts has put together a podcast exploring how different stakeholders can enhance the user experience of their designs by including sustainability as a key requirement. Our interviewees include:
