Kevin is SHP IOSH Consultant of the Year 2009

System Concepts’ health and safety consultant, Kevin Heywood, has won the Consultant of the Year category of the SHP IOSH Awards 2009, for his work with one of our key clients.

Kevin provides a full-time, on-site service to ten of the client’s offices in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England.  His task, when he started two years ago, was to help them implement 72 actions from a health and safety audit.  Kevin drew up a regional prioritised plan of action and worked with the local office staff to produce an office-based action plan for each site. This enabled local staff to prioritise tasks and achieve a number of small goals throughout the year.

Through on-site and telephone support, Kevin coached and mentored people to help them implement their local plans.  Kevin’s work has brought health and safety management in the ten offices to the same level as the rest of the client’s UK sites allowing them to develop a national health and safety strategy.

The judges were particularly impressed with how Kevin took time to find out what he was dealing with instead of arriving with pre-conceived ideas of the outcomes he was trying to achieve.
