Biography

Monima joined System Concepts as a consultant in early 2010.  Following a degree in Marine Engineering in Nigeria, he studied Safety, Health and Environmental Management from the University of Glamorgan gaining a Distinction.  He completed his thesis investigating the effectiveness of personal protective equipment (fire clothing) in use by the Fire Service in South Wales. The research identified contributory factors like fitting, mobility, size and breathability taking into account evolving roles of fire fighters.  It achieved runner-up status at IOSH Safety Sciences Group’s Student Research Competition 2007.  Monima is a graduate member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and a qualified first aider.

Prior to joining System Concepts, Monima worked in the educational sector as a safety officer and facilities management sector on a range of assessments and projects, providing the following services:

• Conducting and developing induction materials for contractors
• Conducting workplace and fire risk assessments.
• Reviewing policies, risk assessments and method statements.
• Maintaining and updating health and safety accident statistics
• Devising health and safety requirements for contractors prior to site visits.
• Conducting audits and health and safety investigations, providing practical, cost-effective recommendations.
• Managing and controlling contractors whilst they undertook high risk activities e.g. hot works, excavations, confined spaces and work at height.
• Providing training on a range of subjects which include fire safety, manual handling.

Since joining System Concepts, Monima has worked on the following assignments:

• Carrying out a range of risk assessments for the Wellcome Trust in London. 
• Undertaking risk assessments for Land Securities examining health and safety risks and controls at three landfill sites and two lakes. 
• Carrying out fire risk assessments for Linedata Services and Singer Asset Finance at their Offices

In September 2010, Monima was seconded to Ernst & Young London office to provide on-site day to day health and safety operational support and advice, including:

• Providing on-site support in planning and running health, safety and well-being events
• Managing first aid compliance and carrying out maternity/DSE assessments for staff
• Managing training programmes and delivering fire marshal and DSE training.
• Conducting near miss and incident investigation.
• Conducting contractor audit for catering operations.

Monima is an experienced trainer and has also been involved since joining System Concepts with the assessment and accreditation of trainees.
