Biography

Emma is a consultant with System Concepts.  She holds a Dual Honours Bachelor Degree in Geology and Music from Keele University and the Oxford Brookes Diploma in Health and Safety Management.  She is currently a graduate member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH), as well as a qualified first aider.
Emma has eight years of health and safety experience.  Prior to joining System Concepts, she worked as a health and safety officer carrying out health and safety assessments for a global company, Ove Arup and Partners; and prior to that with Balfour Beatty Utilities.  Emma also worked as a safety scientist for the Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL), specialising in slips trips and falls.  She has been involved in a range of projects and assessments, including the following.

• Coordinating and managing the health and safety requirements of various buildings located in central London, in addition to supporting regional and global offices.
• On-site management of contractors.
• Risk assessments including manual handling activities, maternity, fire and display screen equipment (DSE) assessments.
• Assistance with occupational health referrals and sickness absence management.
• Developing induction handbooks and documentation.
• Conducting accident and ill-health investigations.
• Producing monthly and yearly accident and incident statistics.
• Developing and delivering bespoke health and safety training courses as well as developing on-line training packages.
• Developing and revising health and safety management systems, including producing emergency evacuation procedures.
• Managing company in-house safety teams (safety coordinators, fire marshals, first aiders, DSE assessors).
• Initiating an internal review of driver safety training.
• Acting as the secretary for health and safety committee meetings.
• Developing and maintaining health and safety intranet sites.
• Reviewing space and layout provisions for open-plan office environments to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and ergonomics best practice.
• Liaising with building landlords to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Providing pre-qualification questionnaire support to clients and reviewing method statements and risk assessments for work carried out by contractors.

Since joining System Concepts, Emma has been seconded to a client’s site on a full time basis.
