Biography

Bilingual French / English, Jerry left his native France to study for both a Bachelor Degree in Molecular Biology and a Master’s degree in Forensic Science at King’s College London.  He moved away from the academic world to work within the outdoor industry as a climbing instructor and health and safety manager before seeing the light and turning to full time health and safety consultancy.

Currently studying for a Master’s degree by distance learning with Portsmouth University, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management and he is a graduate member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health.

Between leaving the outdoor industry and joining System Concepts, Jerry worked as a full time health and safety consultant carrying out health and safety, fire and disabled access audits of companies primarily within the property management sector.  During this time, he was heavily involved in managing contractors for a number of clients as well as designing and delivering bespoke health and safety training courses.

Joining System Concepts in November 2006, he worked on the HSE project, Workplace Health Connect, carrying out over 150 visits to SMEs to provide them with the knowledge and skills to manage their health and safety effectively.  Since the end of the project, Jerry has split his time between delivering and designing training and working with a variety of clients ranging from: a university engineering department, a pharmaceutical company to a sporting association.  He has also made several visits to Algeria to deliver behavioural safety training to the oil and gas industry.

As a regular contributor to the news and development section of a health and safety publication, Jerry is passionate about putting common sense back into risk management and raising the profile of health and safety.  His main interests include fire safety management and working at height.

Jerry is still an active climbing instructor with experience of industrial rigging, abseils and charity events.  When not at work, he can often be found falling off easy routes, training for a triathlon or engaging in spectacularly long cooking endeavours.
